Matatiele
Matatiele Local Municipality (EC144) was established on the 1st of March 2006. The Municipality went through major changes in terms of its demarcation and governance. Prior to 1 March 2006, Matatiele Local Municipality (KZ5a3) comprised the towns of Matatiele and Cedarville and fell within the Sisonke District of Kwazulu Natal.
From 1 March 2006, the Municipality was incorporated into the Alfred Nzo District of the Eastern Cape. The newly established Matatiele Local Municipality includes the towns of Matatiele, Cedarville and the magisterial district of Maluti which formerly fell under the Umzimvubu Municipality and a rural district management area which formerly fell under the jurisdiction of the Alfred Nzo District Municipality.

Umzimvubu Local Municipality is one amongst four local municipalities that fall under the Alfred Nzo District Municipality located in the northern region of the Eastern Cape. It stretches to the border of the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. In 2001, the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality was formed as an administrative area covering Port Elizabeth, the neighbouring towns of Uitenhage and Despatch, and the surrounding agricultural areas. Nelson Mandela Bay is a major seaport and automotive manufacturing centre.
The Coega Industrial Development Zone (IDZ) is situated within the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality. The initiative is a multibillion-dollar industrial development complex customized for heavy, medium and light industries. It is adjacent to a deepwater port, the Port of Ngqura, and covers 110 km² of land. The city’s unique advantage of possessing two ports, namely Port Elizabeth Harbour and Ngqura, creates an opportunity for the city to establish a strong and vibrant maritime sector.
